Mommy Dauben Breaks Her Silence, Tries to Put to Bed Rumor that Never Was

She said this over at the cedarcreeklake.com site under the comments section.

Cheri Hackler Dauben · Reading/Language Teacher at Desoto Private School
I would like to make a comment on what was suggested in court by the DA, on the hater blogs, and in the Waxahachie Daily Light. Until his arrest, Joey made his own living and WAS NOT living off of his grandmother. It was a family decision that he move in with his grandmother to oversee her care and drive her the store and doctors. As an eighty + old independent woman, she wanted to continue to live in her home and Joey was able to help her remain there. The implication to the contrary is entirely false and can be verified by family members.

I guess we have been elevated to "hater blogs", fist bump to all the regulars on that one.

Now, on to the content. I dont know all what was said in court, but if she is commenting about what was reported, then there is no misunderstanding. As far as this blog goes, he was living with his grandmother at the time of his arrest and I'm assuming it was rent free. I know he was a transient for years before he moved in with granny so I have never said he was living off of her, only that he was living with her. I would certainly question the idea of him making "his own living" before that. I think a better translation would be that he kinda sorta eeked by for a while as a blogger. But anyway, for all you on here saying or implying he was living OFF of granny, instead of just with granny, there will be no more of that.
Further down in the comments was this guy Fred who seems to get the whole story pretty dead on with his summation and points out that Webb is really reaching to try and tie this story into Cedar Creek Lake area.

Terrible headline! Cedar Creek Lake not even near Ellis County! Coulda said Dallas as it is almost as near. Just trying to get readers?

So he started a blog! Many people do. Hardly a publisher! Headline is incorrect and gives bad impression of lake area .am I now a publisher since I write this. Arrested in Payne Springs.....does not qualify for Cedar creek lake publisher...Kathy Nailing more publisher than this creep. :-)

  1. So you picked out only the comments from that story that could allow you to write yet another deceptive, inflammatory post. If anything you've ever said on your posts is accurate, it is that you are governed by no professional standards. Joey Dauben was living and working in Payne Springs on Cedar Creek Lake covering local government issues. He was creating quite a stir. A local newspaper reporter confirmed that in the comments section, but you of course ignored that because you apparently place no importance on the principles of journalism. You can relegate blogging to substandard type of communication if you want, but the truth is that bloggers don't enjoy some special privilege to distort the truth.

    1. Of course we just covered the comments, we already addressed your story and this was just a copy and paste of what you already blogged.
"Deceptive"? What the hell was deceptive about that? Joey Dauben was living in, covering local issues, and causing quite a stir in several communities south of dallas. You are the only one that is covering him at this point other than the papers where he committed his crimes (waxahachie and corsicana). So you may feel like you are entitled to still cover him, but for me or Fred to say its a stretch for you to still be coving this in between all your gay cruise updates, is an opinion, which bloggers and commenters generally engage in. To call that deceptive is simply incorrect.

Oh and lets cover a little bit of the "stir" Joey was causing out there. This was in Seven Points, where he was playing a game of who is gay with contestants being the mayor, council and police officers. All of his stories mentioned their sexuality and his theory was that they were having sex with each other which was the principle reason for their collusion and corruption. As a lifelong flamer, it continues to confound me how you keep sticking up for him.

You said "but the truth is that bloggers don't enjoy some special privilege to distort the truth." Sort of seems like you have a double standard. Joey distorted the truth, yet you defended his right to do so under protection of the 1st Amendment.

Joey was covering what government issues? Bashing cops, bad mouthing judges, outing gay politicians, "exposing" pedophiles, harassing city council members, accusing mayors of infidelity? Did Joey cover the issues in print or on a blog? Is Joey's coverage of any of these issues available in print copy or blog archive? Did Joey's coverage of the issues make an impact? A constructive change? Did Joey enlighten people?

If any of Joey's coverage is available and you find that it had substance, please share it with us. All we've seen of Joey's coverage of any issue is his coverage of the delusions in his head. Not much substance there.

Of course Joey was stirring things up. He was paid, fed and driven around town in return for posting stuff to stir things up. But the truth is that he didn't enjoy some special privilege to distort the truth.

    3. Oh, gosh. You are getting funnier and more transparent all of the time. First, you accuse me of being a lonely old queen who has no friends, then you reveal that you know I went on two cruises this summer with friends. Not so lonely and pathetic at all, huh? There were comments in the post revealing the truth about the situation, and you didn't reference those at all. When newspapers make front page news out of arrests, then do not reveal the conclusions, then they are cheating their readers out of information. I'm not sure it would be accurate to characterize me as a "lifelong flamer", but I've generally been honest about myself. There is nothing honest about you, mystery blogger.

    4. You just called yourself a "queen" and "pathetic" because I never did, those are your words.

Yeah, you are exactly right. I pick out and chose whatever the hell I want to cover. I don't even have to cover the other side. I can slant my blog in whatever direction I want, these are the superpowers that bloggers posses, welcome to 2012. But to use the word deception means I'm intentionally misleading the content or distorting it (like editing the actual quotes or completely misrepresenting that which I'm quoting).

    5. Again, I have repeatedly said that Joey Dauben exercised poor judgment, failed to observe the ethics and and professional standards of journalism. I've told him that too. I do observer those standards in my reporting of a legitimate news story. My only concern is that laws possibly are not being applied appropriately in this case. This could affect all of us, not just Joey Dauben. Your hatred of him is getting your way of considering First Amendment issues.

    6. Ginger Sap: It was pretty clear what you meant. You don't have to use the exact words to express a meaning.

    7. Again for you, JOEY WAS NOT A JOURNALIST, he was a blogger just like you and me. Of course he failed to observe the ethics and professional standards of journalism, but thats not why he was convicted. He committed a felony. They had that rule "fraudulent use of identifying information" before Joey. He clearly violated it. Now you can argue that it was a pretty liberal interpretation of that rule but thats where his personal situation plays back in. This is not a precedent that you or I will have to worry about. And if you want to live in a world where what Joey did could continue to go on without fear of any repercussion other than another pointless civil suit, then I say you have a warped mind.

And yes my intent is always pretty transparent with the use of my words, if you want to add words to mine, thats on you.

    8. David Webb appears to enable, support and defend child molesters or well, alleged ones. That's an opinion based on my limited insight to his 'real' writing ability. Of course some say pedophiles, other baby rapists... tomato / tomata. I don't have to use the exact words to express what I mean.

    9. You and I have absolutely nothing in common. I earned a degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, and I worked for publications nationwide for 30 years, not to mention the number of stories I freelanced for publications. I have no idea what your are because you are just an anonymous name slinging filth at people. Hardly credible.

    10. I cannot get past the fact you think this is a first amendment issue David. Did you really go to school? An internet bully that didn't have to work for aliving because his family enabled him... spent his days harassing, threatening, libeling and slandering anyone and everyone, mostly having to do with sex in some way or another. He's not a journalist, never was one. YOU CANNOT BE a journalist in our world without the University degree. An internet bully that got the attention of Webb is somehow put up on a pedestal. I still think you have a sexual attraction to Joey, I think that's why you hang onto this and even keep coming back to this blog. You appear to like to be spanked and you love being a bad boy. Being Joey's cheerleader probably will not end well for you. It never does for anyone who steps off the Dauben soapbox.

    11. "You and I have absolutely nothing in common."

Both you and I run a blog on blogspot.com...I win. What game can we play next?

    13. have you ever heard the expression "don't bring a knife to a gun fight"?

You have repeatedly stated general criticism of Joey's...uh...um... talents. But, you have not been specific about his journalistic short comings and other statements you make overlook the fact that what Joey posted was self serving in a sick, twisted way.

I'm glad that you are following Joey's sage for several reasons: 1) I agree with you that it cheats the readers if the ending of a story is not covered, 2) until the last article, what you have written is objective and 3) it's worth following to ask and answer the questions with regard to application of the laws. I was interested in your perspective with regard to 1st amendment protection. But there is no question in my mind or in the minds of regular posters on this "hater blog" (fist bump back at ya Gingersnap), this is not a 1st amendment issue.

Hate has nothing to do with it, I don't care enough about him to have any feeling one way or the other. It's annoying to me when anybody refers to Joey as a journalist or a publisher. It should annoy you too, given your credentials and ethical standards. Joey quit being a journalist when he quit working for the Ellis County Press. He was a gossip blogger, he was for sale and he hurt a lot of people.

    15. Caution Ginger, I have a feeling he's enjoying his foreplay and of course, probably quite intoxicated. Please don't drink and drive Davie.

    16. This is just more bullshit and defamation. Was that a threat Ginger Sap? Are you planning on bringing a gun somewhere near me to settle an argument?

    17. I'm starting to wonder if you played the victim card on your mother for giving birth to you.

    18. That makes no sense. Let's get back to the gun. What did you mean?

      Delete
    19. Well, I think I'll let you explain that to the police. You have been attacking me for days, and I think it's a good idea at this time to make sure you aren't planning something more sinister than verbal abuse.

    20. yeah you are a strong defender of free speech I see.

    21. Here is MY OPINION:
Ok I fail to see the threat in Gingers' "knife to a gunfight" in short (MAY GOD FORGIVE ME FOR EVEN SAYING THIS) you are outclassed Mr. Webb. Using the threat of police action agaist gigner defies even my fathers logic.
Using the threat of police action proves that you know you have lost all your arguments and have resulted to the most petty of all things. "I am losing so I am going to call in what ever might I can to enforce that even though I am wrong I will be proven right."
I have seen some pretty petty things in my days with Joey. Name calling was Joeys style. He attempted to make a living off of it.
What I am seeing here is an attempt to claim hate speech where none exists. Mr. Webb calling yourself what you did proves selfloathing. Where is Pattycakes at I need a second opinion on that. Trying to then claim hate speech after that is illogical.

  2. Ok ok ok ok ok ok... I guess it may be possible Joey could live without gammy and feed, cloth, house himself. Of course his options would be limited to a homeless shelter or jail. I guess he made his independent living choice now. Cheri refuses to face the fact that her baby was never able to support himself, ever . For Webby to say he lived and WORKED tells me the lack of his ability to investigate the people he writes, I errr mean blogs about. That, I must say is a highly deceptive word.

yes, its called a hobby. What else do you need clarified for you?

    3. Joey was at best break even.
Ron Pegram and the lot from Balch Springs covered ALOT of his expenses with The Balch Springs Beacon. What Joey never could figure out was how to pay those that actually did his dirty work.
The fact is this is a blog not a newspaper. Look at it like many looked at the ECO. It is slanted yes but it is what it is. Tabloidism. I admit the blogs I write for are as well. Face it. This is one person who can look at and for comments that fit their views. Blogs regulary do that.
Now if you want to know what Joey's state of finiancial affairs were. He was using "Patrons" to cover the monthly printing expenses of his papers. While never once giving more thought to his "Editors" that the occasional tank of gas. Even that was painful for him to come up with. Yes he did on a few occasions feed me at the sonic in Palmer but if I needed gas he winced.
Joey needed his "Patrons" to print the message they wanted him to print. I find it hillarous that he claimed to be the "Conservitive Voice" of anything while taking so many liberties with the lies he has told. Joey is anything but a journalist. He is a blogger that at one time held a journalism position.
While Joey contiues his legal issues, the Navarro County Charges, he needs to do some serious soul searching. If and when he has concluded his probation and or Jail time he needs to decide if the path he was on was worth it or not.
This conviction will only cement Joey as one thing in any form of press. A convicted felon. A felon that has been given the chance of redemption. That is why Judge Bob Carroll gave him probation instead of jail.
Judge Carroll belives that Joey can and will be a productive member of society should he decide to be. All Judge Carroll can do is point him in the right direction.
